My paternal grandfather, Calogero Palminteri, was born in Menfi, Sicily, on June 22, 1886. On October 25, 1908, Calogero left Menfi with his new wife Rosa Bonfante to travel to Palermo to begin his journey to the United States on the S.S. Principe Di Piemonte, with New York as his final destination.
On Friday, March 12, 1909, they docked at Ellis Island.
After finally disembarking, Calogero was so overcome that he dropped to his knees, kissed the ground, and blessed America.
I have fond memories of my grandfather, who had a love for family, a fine cigar and a great bottle of wine. I dedicate this premium wine to my Grandfather, Calogero, and all the hard working people who came to America looking for a dream.
