Batch No. 198 Cabernet Sauvignon Bourbon Barrel Aged 750ml

Here’s something you may not know about winemakers: we love bourbon. So it really wasn’t a stretch when we set out to combine our love for California winemaking and old school Southern craft distilling. We started with premium Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from Alexander Valley in California’s prestigious North Coast AVA as well as 12% Alexander Valley Merlot and 2% Lake County Petite Sirah. Then, we introduced them to 198 Kentucky bourbon barrels from our friends at Amador Whisky—and Batch No. 198 was born.

First, we fermented the Cab with BDX Bordeaux Red yeast to promote deep color, firm structure and silky mouthfeel. Next, we aged the wine for three months in oak barrels previously used to craft 6 year-old Kentucky bourbon. Aging in bourbon barrels lends a unique flavor profile to the wine, imparting subtle whisky notes of vanilla, brown sugar, smoke and spices. After aging, we blended the Cab with a hint of Merlot and Petite Sirah for added balance and depth.

You’ve never experienced Cabernet Sauvignon like this before. From the moment you take your first sip, you can tell Batch No. 198 is something special. Aromas of cherries, caramel and sweet leather lead to complex layers of black cherry, blackberry and plum enhanced by nuances of toasted vanilla, smoke and spice imparted by the bourbon barrels. It’s bold and balanced with smooth, integrated tannins and a lingering finish. Food pairing well with thick steaks and great conversations.
